I've used AppleScripts for years instead of the regular drop-downs in OS 9, and in OS X under the apple to shut the thing down and restart it. The scripts mute the sound first.

Another script added to the log-in items turns up the volume after the bong.

I think everyone is ignoring the main reason to turn it off. I have a macbook and I periodically have to reboot in class and I can't have the chime play, it's embarrassing and distracting to other students. I know the volume setting will control it but it doesn't always work for me so this thing gives me a little reassurance.

Last semester, class was starting, and some girl ran out into the hallway holding her Mac laptop, then you heard *chime* in the hallway, then she came back in the class. XD

Talk about awkward. XD XD
