More dicking around with iTunes, and I think I've finally figured out just what the smart playlists are supposed to be and do, as opposed to regular ones. Also, it vexed me that the iPod shuffle could be filled to the brim with random music, whereas you had to do it manually, more or less, with the nano. Find 1.85 GB worth of music, copy into the iPod playlist, connect iPod nano, sync. Erm, yeah.
