as I eventually have to eat something. !

Just getting over a horrible sickness myself. Was out of school for almost 2 weeks, a day in the hospital, blood tests and all that. Turns out it was just a very very nasty virus.

Had such a bad sore throat I couldn't eat at all. Lost 5-10 pounds during that time, so I know how it is. Try to eat what you can, but being sick just totally kills your appetite.

Cant sleep?

Why not go into your system preference folder and start to randomly trash some files? See what happens, just for fun. Then if you cant run some apps or you cant boot up, heck you have something to keep you busy!

Umm...I really don't think that would be a good idea.

There's one suggestion that hasn't been made, and that's probably because this is a family oriented forum. That said... if you have a mate, hop to it. It's healthy, burns lots of energy and will leave you sleeping like a baby if done correctly. ;)

Very true indeed. Doing the business lets off chemicals in the brain to make you sleep. Its inevitable ;)

Old man remedy that i found by mistake. Initially i use this method to rid my self or lesson the hurt from migraines.
Bucket with warm/hot water. Place your feet in the bucket then a cool cloth over the forehead. It is amazingly quick to get rid of migraines but also helps me nod off. Just don't do it with feet still in the bucket or you will be looking for the loo pretty quick lol

Cheers

No TV. (too much light)
No reading. (stimulates the brain)
Paint a wall. Then watch it dry.

Blackout shades in the bedroom.
Run an electric fan for "white noise".

No TV or computer in the bedroom.
The bedroom is for sleeping. (primarily) ;)

this.

It's amazing the difference even electrical taping small led lights in the bedroom will make a difference. No tv, or computer half hour before you sleep. Don't read anything that will make you think. Fiction is good for me. Anything that has nothing to do with current events, news or your current life. And keep any cellphones etc far away from your head.

Be careful of sleeping aids, I've had more than one friend fall in that trap.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Viruses are horrible, evil things. I've had mine for nearly four years. I caught it on my mission and the doctors found the infection that resulted from it, but not the virus. It attached itself to my basal ganglia and then went systemic. A specialist finally found it right before Thanksgiving, but I've had over three years of fun symptoms, testing and meds. And now I'm having a great time while my system is purging this virus...

It's enough to make me want to wear a bubble around so as never to get another one. =)

I wish. I actually wished I had a husband the other night because nothing else was working. Haha.

I actually got some tips yesterday when I went through some more treatment. Did you know that your pillow is not supposed to sit under your neck, but is only supposed to rest about halfway down your head? (Think: ear range.) Apparently the other way jams your neck back and tightens all your muscles, instead of having your neck and head relax as it's supposed to. Interesting.

Yes, my tea is non-caffinated. =) I need to drink a ton of water, and it's hard sometimes, so I'll take anything that ups my fluid intake. Another thing I learned yesterday: 1 tbs apple cider vinegar, 2 tbs honey and 8 oz of hot water will help your system purge toxins. So I'm trying that as well. And I got a bottle of melatonin.

I'm going to try my best to get off the computer and away from my devices well before bed. My problem usually is that my symptoms make me so uncomfortable that I need a distraction from the pain. Otherwise, I start to freak out, and that doesn't help anything. However...reading textbooks certainly is putting me into a daze...=)

You sound like an owl rather than a lark (your mind becomes active late at night - preventing sleep)

Since narcotics and red wine are our of the question ( and anyhow drugs will put you to sleep but can interfere with your proper sleep cycle) - then the key is relaxation, since the fact that your mind is racing is preventing you from going to sleep.

AS has been said, some nice honey and milk will do the trick, but only if you are drinking it while sitting down and not doing much. Get off the internet and in the final hour or two, watch TV on the sofa (something not too active on TV) and relax with that milk and honey.

When you are getting relaxed then go to bed and read a book, maybe something you are not usually interested in, here's tip

A Short History Of Nearly Everything: Amazon.co.uk: Bill Bryson: Books

Don't aim to finish the book but just get through a couple of chapters, hopefully by now you are fully relaxed and ready to rest your head for the night.

I myself try and listen to a radio play (typically the book at bedtime ob BBC radio 4, which is almost designed to drift you off). I could also quite happily go off to sleep listening to the BBC's Shipping forecast. I have no idea what most of it means, but the announcers voice could smooth just about anybody to a blissful sleep
