No sound on incoming texts - sometimes

My beloved iPhone 8 has suddenly stopped making incoming text isounds, but only sometimes. I've checked all the sounds, and the message area, and made sure the phone isn't on Do Not Disturb or silent. Sometimes the phone will ping, sometimes it won't. It has also stopped sending photos to my MBA's photo stream, although it will send to my iPad. I hope this phone isn't dying?

Just like when a computer starts acting strangely...rebooting an iPhone can many times can help too.

Thank you Nick. I've turned the phone completely off and on twice, but rebooting for this is more than I can handle, as I've a hunch I may need a new phone soon.
