iPhone SE, iOS 14.3, no longer rings for phone calls or texts. All sounds are enabled, have turned the phone on and off twice. All settings are okay. Vibrate works. Is the phone toast?

Is this the original SE or the newer model? And was it working okay after you installed 14.3?

Try doing a reset of the phone but make sure you have a backup first.

Original SE. It's my husband's phone - uses it only to make phone calls, text and take pictures. No apps. I installed 14.3 hoping it would solve the sound problem, but it didn't. He does not want to reset the phone. I think he just needs a new phone, but would like to avoid the expense if there's anything else we can try.

That phone is long out of warranty so if it has a problem with the ringer not working, there really isn't much you can do other than try the reset since you have already tried other things.

Taking that phone to a phone repair service may wind up costing more than it's worth. The new iPhone SE is not expensive and he can transfer his data to the new one very easily especially if he has no apps. Of course it's up to him what he wants to do. But a phone that won't ring or alert to calls or messages is useless.

Talk to hubby and convince him. :)

Thank you chscag! That's exactly what I thought, but there is always a chance I'm missing something. Getting him a new SE, hopefully tomorrow. All that needs transferring is Contacts and photos. The original SE is only worth a $30 trade-in, so he wants to keep it to make sure he doesn't lose photos.
Appreciate your assistance!

Not sure I should admit to this idiocy, but in the interest of helping anyone else...

In one last desperate attempt I took off the Otter Box case. The stupid case had moved the switch to “Do Not Disturb”, and it didn't show up any place else on the phone. He had dropped the phone, jiggling the case, which moved the switch. And one has to be very careful putting the case back on, because it moved the switch to DND again.

LOL, I had a good laugh at that one.

No problem, I have done things myself which later on I have no idea what I did. Like misplacing items that my wife can find and I can not. :)

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you solved hubby's no ringer problem. Hopefully that original SE will continue to last him for a few more years.
