I'm "holding my breath" to hear what OWC says about the messed up ram.
- Nick
Thanks for the pics. That's a mighty fine machine you got there. Hope the RAM replacement goes smoothly.
Ha. I just ordered a new 4 GB replacement module.
Does this mean that OWC would not do anything for you regarding the "bad" module?

Nice Mac indeed, terrible hand job....
Well - I just relayed my tale of woe via their online help chat - and she didn't offer a replacement - and I didn't ask. After all - it was my fault - so I wouldn't really expect them to bear the cost of my mistake. It's a $60 lesson in being a little more careful.
Too bad. Maybe they're trained in a "Don't ask...don't tell" sort of manner. AKA...if a customer doesn't ask...we won't tell/offer."
How come you wanted to upgrade all the way to 16 gig so soon? Maybe in another 6-12 months the ram would have dropped in price (just a thought).
- Nick
I definitely wanted more than 8 - since I can easily eat that up after a few minutes in Aperture.
Hey...if you have a need for more than 8 gig...then getting 16 makes sense to me.!
Your iMac can be upgraded to 32 gig of ram...so that's something to look forward to...and wait for 8 gig modules to come down in price.

Anyway, congratulations . . . again, and glad things turned out well. Enjoy the new Mac and I'll try not to be too jealous!
Very Nice. Congrats! I unboxed mine a few months ago!
I'm not ashamed to admit how utterly jealous I am right now !
But happy for you at the same time of course! Congrats on the new beauty. Now, if you have any intentions of using that iMac for photo editing to the point of printing, you need to calibrate that sucker. Part of calibrating entails keeping and using the iMac in a room with very consistent lighting.
As for the tool(s) used to calibrate, I've heard very good things about the X-rite Colormunki, in that it gets better results than a Spyder Pro with iMacs. But then again, most of this depends upon the printer. A subset of this concern is whether or not you'll be using your own printer or sending your proofs out to a print lab. It's a rather intricate process really.. but either way, calibration needs to be done. And if you're using your own printer, then you need to calibrate every few weeks (because of color drift- which doesn't occur as often on a pro monitor vs. a consumer grade monitor such as the LG screens iMacs use)
Anyway.. you know where I'm at if you want further assistance with all that nonsense!

I'm "holding my breath" awaiting the hand pictures thread. :Blushing:

The great thing about switching this year is it also reawakened the computer nerd within that had gone dormant over the past few years. It's been fun!
The Thanks! I know - I remember seeing the pics - helped cement my desire for the iMac once the new one came out.

Hehe - well - the images may not show it - but that's the fault of the photographer - not the gear - as these pics were indeed snapped by L glass. My 24-70 2.8L (non-IS) was on the EOS.
