My Mid 2011 27" iMac is slowly failing. Won't log on, even after restarts. then it does. I wanted an M2 27" iMac but since Apple does not make any M2 or 27" iMacs and doesn't plan to, I've decided to buy an M2 mini 512GB. What make an model monitor do you guys recommend? I will be connecting via HDMI cable, and what resolution should I set it to? Not a gamer and don't do video editing. etc. Just email, shopping and googling.

I don't have any suggestions as to what display to recommend, but you don't mention what price range you have either, but Google certainly has a fair number of hits you could browse through and see what their suggestions are:

I wonder why Apple is so hesitant to provide a 27-inch iMac as there certainly seems to be a fair demand for such a machine, and at a reasonable price level that most people could afford.

It seems as though I will be using my Mid 2011 27" iMac for some time longer and touchwood, it's still working quite well for my use and I hope it continues to do so for some time.

Good luck choosing a new display.

I'm happy with my 32" ViewSonic monitor, I just picked up after Christmas.

You didn't specify your usage, or amount you're looking to spend?

Any monitor will work. Figure out your budget, figure out what size you want (27", 32", curved or not), figure out resolution (2k, 4k, 8k, etc.) and brands with good reputation and reviews and go for it.

I'm partial to my Viewsonics. But have had Samsungs and Dells before. BenQ makes good professional grade monitors as well.

Check out some reviews and do some research. You are NOT going to get a definitive answer from anyone here.

The only thing I would add to Ashwin's post, are there any specific features you are interested in?

I find I never have enough USB ports so I tend to give preference to monitors with a built in USB hub.
I know one can buy USB hubs separately (and for less money) but I hate any clutter on my desk that doesn't have to be there.
I also tend to eliminate monitors with built-in speakers since their sound is usually of poor quality and I prefer to use headphones.

The M2 mini comes with an HDMI output, which makes your life quite a bit easier! You won't need to get an adapter. Make sure that any HDMI cable you use meets the HDMI 2.1 standard.

Price is not important. as for USB ports, I can use a 4-1 extender as I do now on my iMac. Not sure if my Mid 2011 iMac will lasts much longer. When it works, it's great. But sometimes I cannot log on to Safari or Chrome. Other times it freezes so I have to restart the iMac. One other thing, somehow I attached Hoyles card games to this Mac. I can then play any of the games. Will miss this if
i upgrade

You better keep the old iMac if you want to play those games, as their site says:
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Not supported on macOS 10.15 Catalina and later macOS.

I've had a Viewsonic 27" 4K monitor for a year or so now. Very nice monitor.
