Messages not updating on MacBook

I noticed recently that my Messages are no longer coming through on my MacBook.

I really noticed when codes that were being texted for 2-factor security from various websites, were no longer coming through to auto fill on my MacBook, while the Message was still coming through on my iPhone.

Using iPhone 13 and old MacBook Pro (mid-2012) on Catalina 10.15.7

Any advice other than replacing my MacBook because it's old (planning on getting new one at some point in the next 12 m).

was just typing up all my setting here when I noticed my iPhone Send and Receive was on for my phone number with an option to switch to using Apple ID (email address) allowing all emails and phone number to work across iCloud.

ouch. That was pretty hidden away.
