Thanks for the update. Deleting the alarms or modifying them so that they are not set to check Mail should stop the e-mail check.

OK, but how does one find any particular iCal appointment that has such a notification that one may want to disable??

And then, if and when found, are the changes sent to iCloud if it's being used for any other devices?
