...I used a Kensington Orbit for the longest time. I liked it because it worked week if you happened to be left handed. Some of the Logitech models I've used have been decidedly right handed.

So are you saying your left handed?? You know all great people are left handed....O:)

Laura, Which Trackball have you been using? My favorite of all time is the Logitech Trackman Marble.

I have this Logitech Trackman . I once had a Kensington similar to the Logitech Marble but I prefer using the thumb grip. For some reason the scroll wheel suddenly stopped working. And, as a photo librarian, I scroll all darn day long, so losing that function is annoying. I've tried the trackball on two computers to make sure it wasn't a computer glitch. I've opened the trackball itself but everything (that I can view) seems fine--no obvious broken bits, and the scroll wheel still physically feels normal.

Looks similar to mine.

Guilty on both counts. :D I keep hoping posts like this will convince by wife but her usual response is something on the order of "We've been married long enough for me to know better". :)

FWIW, I've decided to give the Apple Magic Trackpad a try and picked one up today at my local Best Buy. Wish me luck! Or, at least, wisdom during my 14 day trial period to know for certain whether it is the best device for me or not. :)

Cheers!

TrackPad all the way for me. Have to use a mouse at work, but when I have a choice I use the TrackPad.

I have both Magic Mouse and TrackPad and hardly ever use the mouse. For most things the TrackPad is far easier to use.

Question: can the Trackpad only be paired with one computer? I paired successfully with my Mac Mini last night but this morning it will not pair with my work machine--a MacBook Pro (I work from home and usually use the MBP at my desk with my Asus display and mac keyboard).

I find it a bit difficult to know when the trackpad is on or off. Does it automatically turn off when you turn off your mac or does it just go to sleep?

Hopefully this Apple document will help:

Here's the manual for the Magic Trackpad…it has a section for "Removing a Pairing":

I'm not sure what the problem was, but after several attempts and a long wait, the MBP finally sees the Trackpad. Whew! I didn't want to have to remove the pairing with my Mini every day to use the Trackpad with my MBP. I think that would have been a deal breaker for me. Fingers crossed that from here on out both macs connect with the trackpad instantly. (FWIW, I do realize that I have to only have one mac turned on at a time and never turned the Mini on this morning before attempting to pair with the MBP.)
