Keep in mind. Memory not used is memory wasted. But if you jam to much into it, its like any other container it will crash. Everything has its limits. They kernel should off load anything out of memory to the system drive when memory gets full. The only time I seen linux crash on this was when someone set the /swap partition to small or just had a program that had a memory leak. Take note that the program that crashed doesn't have to be the one causing the leak.
