So, when is the next conference or showing for new products?

I am quite disappointed as I sold my iBook after using it for 6 months last September as the lead-up to all the conferences (in which they reveal a new PowerBook, iMac and the iPod nano/video) indicated that there would be a new iBook at somepoint yet today we found out nothing related to it.

Not happy, but I like the new software applications though.

Well... it was unlikely TBH, that an intel iBook would work its way out today.

Don't believe the rumours, better to just plan on concrete releases and products, otherwise you will do this dog chasing its tail thing which can get very infuriating.

I was under the impression that the single core was named Intel Core Solo.
I have a rev C 12 in. PB and specs say that it burns DVD-R at 4x plus I can burn DVD+R at 2x even though its not officially supported. I figure the that you not being able to but at 8x might have something to do with the +-R rather than the brand. I would have expected the FW800 to remain on the 15 and the 17 in. My guess is that Apple feels that nobody really needs FW800 on the go. In this case it had better be on the the DR 17 in. Is anybody else disappointed that its not black :(

I guess I'm alone, but I like the name MacBook Pro. It's a nod to the Macintosh heritage.

In fact, I think the only place they use the "Mac" name (other than on .mac) these days is on the OS. So technologist's analogy is right on the money. :)
The PowerBooks were technically called "Apple Macintosh PowerBook G3" (etc.) until Steve Jobs returned and shortened the name to "Apple PowerBook G3" (etc.) (It happened somewhere after the WallStreet models.)

There's no need to get rid of the PowerBook name just to add Mac.

As noted in another thread. My speculation is that the reason for the superdrive change is the move from 12.5mm devices to 9mm devices, an thus the 4x drive is as good as those get -- possibly.

Secondly the lack of FW800 could be more down to chipset support, or lack thereof rather.

When do you guys estimate that the new ibooks will come out? Because I just recieved a free one today and had planned on trading it in to the apple store so I can get the new one but I guess that won't happen.

At best I'd say April 1st. Maybe when the Core Solo starts to ship.
