OK, here is my problem first: I preordered the dual 2.0 ghz G5 last year, many people complained about bugs, i didnt have any. Until it got cold out and i noticed my video card would not display a picture under like 65 degrees. the card literally had to be warmed up before it would work (i know, very odd). now, i looked on apples discussion page and many people have posted about this exact problem, said that they called apple, talked to someone about the problem, and apple had many insodents like this, sent them a new card, and it was a done deal.
So i think to myself... self, your year warrentee is coming up... you should probably call about your problem and have it fixed, even though its not happening right now (its friggin' july... its not going to be below 65 degrees again until my warrentee is up) but when you go back to college, it is sure to happen again.
So i call up apple, get some lady on the phone. she asks me what my problem is. i explain to her as detailed as i can what is happening, i even told her that i went on their website and saw that others were having my exact same problem, and it had been deamed a video card problem (ati 9600). so this lady proceeds to tell me that im most likely wrong and that i should pay for a $199 apple care crap so they can check it out and have a "professional" figure it out. so then i explained to her that my 1 year warrentee was not up yet, i KNOW the issue, and for me to buy her apple care would be $200 of money that could have just went to saving me all the hassle and buying myself a new video card. so she goes on belittling me as if i use a mac because they are simple to use... as if ive never ventured to look inside the case of a computer before.... grrr. so then she tried to tell me things i can do to prove its not a hardware problem. so as she listed them, i reminded her that i fix computers every day at work...and have done everything she has offered me as a quick fix. then she boldly says that my video issue could be because im using a microsoft intellimouse and not the original... im about to kill her at this point... so then i ask her why she just cant send me out a new card and i will send her back my card... if they find mine to be fine, sell it to someone..but i would like a replacement. she said that they dont just send customers hardware to install themselves, i would have to take it to a registered apple repair store (a good 50 miles from me).... so then i let her know that, "yes, you do send video cards out to people" lol. so she puts me on hold and talks to someone. comes back and says that i have to do a 1 time service repair of $49. if it is a hardware problem, they remove the charge and send me a new video card.... if they help me but find no error, i get no card and they charge me $49. sounded good to me, i knew it was a video problem. but then she explains to me (after i gave her my credit card info) that if apple hardware test does not show a problem, i have 5 days to reproduce the problem or they charge me. now... lets think logically about this... its july... and 100 degrees out... and i need to drop my computer to under 50 degrees.... yea.. not going to happen. i should have asked her if she wanted me to put it in my freezer for an hour...see what she said to that...
man... im 19 years old and have bought: ibook ($1800), ipod ($300), airport base station ($300), laptop bag ($90), g5 ($3000), 17inch studio display ($700), extra batteries for ibook ($200?), misc. items for both computers. ($200)....ive almost spent $7,000 on apple things... and im not even 20 years old yet.... you would think they would just replace my video card for me... they KNOW they have had these issues before, they know what version of g5 i have, they get the cards at such a discounted price anyway...
any advice? lol... besides repairing permissions? rofl
