Fwiw, I work odd hours, ones I choose so we can raise our daughter without outside childcare. My wife works half time. We have a mortgage on my income alone, far below the amount for which together we could qualify. We have modest vehicles. Our bills - our debts - are few.

We eat meals together, and Sundays are often a candlelight meal, even if served at lunchtime and even if the fare isn't quite exotic. I usually cook that. It's a celebration.

I could easily switch roles with my wife. I can't think of a better job than raising our daughter, which I do anyway, but not as much as my wife. At the same time, I'm good at what I do. I have some successes in it. I also have to create. If I didn't, I'd be on a path to madness, a path I've vowed I'll never follow.

I'll posit that even my passion is a bit artificial. Still, I need to support my family, which is my primary focus. I could probably be a decent homesteader, surviving more on drive if not exactly the finest of talent. I find however I have a talent for math et al, and I allow it to flow as art with me.

In the end I'm just trying to survive, and I simply look for what works best for my situation.

yeah... not an option. 37 and a pacifist. so, there you go. ;)

Have you seen the U.S. Air Force lately? 37 is not old at all, especially if you go into the officer program. As for being a pacifist that doesn't really matter, most people in the Air force are pacifists except for maybe combat pilots. But oh well I just thought I'd throw that out there, good luck in your search.
