I wasn't even born yet. :p
You and I both! I don't even know what this "1981" is, haha.

Let's just put it this way - if you believe Orwell was right in his prophecy, I was born into the world of Big Brother. ;)

Ahh, younglings. ;) You guys really should see the Cannonball Run movies. There's the original and a sequel.

I was finally able to play around with one today and even though they are extremely nice, they're just not for me. They're just too small for my liking.

The Japanese car has a video display built-in to the dashboard, with an on-board VCR. I will just say that driver distraction becomes an issue.

No worse than a GPS unit hanging off a sucker bracket on the windshield and some driver trying to find his or her way by looking at it instead of the road.

Thats gold. Nothing beats a good UBD Street Directory. Im not a fan of GPS as i was in a 25mtr Truck once when GPS was going to send me down a one way Street. I was luvky i knew where i was because i would never been able to back out a double articulated truck and trailer .....

Finally went and had a look at them yesterday. They are pretty nice. Lighter and thinner than my Kindle Fire. I want one now, but holy cow, such a small device and $650 for the one I'd want...??? Not sure I can justify that.

This is the reason why I chose the Nexus 7. It does everything the iPad Mini does at a fraction of the price. Since I don't use any Apple specific services (I like to use platform agnostic ones so I can move between devices easily), the Mini doesn't offer me anything that another cheaper tablet does. That's not to say that it's a bad tablet but the price isn't reflective of added value.

I downsized this time and went 32GB Wifi instead of the 64GB 3G iPad I had previously. Took some work to thin down my file selections, but everything I need (or really want) fits on it and tethering handles the cellular data when I'm out and about.

Saved about $250 and well worth it. My only problem now is I would REALLY like a retina version of this thing. ;P

I actually upgraded to the 64gb version. I just tether it with my iPhone 5 when I'm out and about.

I wanted to go cheaper this time as when and if they go retina I will almost certainly upgrade. And, they only had 16 and 32GB models in stock.

I just sent my iPad Mini black 16gb back to PC World because of a faulty home button (packed away last night) and honestly am missing it so much. I am now using my laptop and honestly hate it! I didn't realise how much I would miss my little iPad :'(

Yeah it's hard to go back to notebooks now that we have tablets.

My awesome mother has let me use her iPad until I get mine back (She can use whenever I'm not evil xD) so I won't be going without. What made it worse was that the screen on my laptop was actually broken so I had to attach it to a screen. It was an un-portable laptop.

Well, thought I'd try out an Android device. So just ordered the Nexus 7 - 32 GB from Walmart - said it was available for same day pick up - and had enough Walmart gift cards to pay for it - plus $195 after tax cheaper than the same size iPad.

Texted me back in 5 minutes - they don't have it.

I think you're going to like it. It's a very capable device, doesn't have the "can't upgrade" problem endemic to the ecosystem and it's quite speedy. However, there is a relative dearth of tablet optimized apps relative to the iPad. That said, if that doesn't bother you, I'm going to guess that you're going to enjoy it.

Finally picked up the Nexus 7 yesterday. Other than the fact that it took me literally an hour to find the app store on it, am liking it so far.

Came to browse the forum on it - 1st ad up was for guess what - the Nexus 7.

The Nexus is larger than my 1st gen Kindle Fire - with the same screen size. Don't like that the Nexus keeps the bottom row on screen all the time instead of hiding it, thus preventing you from using the full size of the screen. I've not seen this on any other device. This would be unacceptable on the Nexus 4 I think.

It took a bit of getting used to on my part as it does take up a portion of the screen. Some apps will hide part of it (I believe VLC will) but I agree - the every present bottom bar does take up screen real estate unnecessarily.
