Thanks that helps.

On my PC I created a SW-Downloads folder for all of the applications I downloaded; this allowed me to keep them separate from the other things that were downloaded.

Where does Apple place downloaded files by default?

If you are using Safari in 10.5 it by default places all downloads in users/username/downloads. You can change it if you would like in Safari Preferences. If you are not using Safari and say are using Firefox, go to the settings under Firefox and point it to where you want. That Downloads folder is a handy place though.

Oh. Hadn't looked at the contents of my user folder.

Thanks

It's easier if once it's opened you right click on the icon in the dock and tell it to keep it in the dock.
