Have you tried changing DNS servers? It's fairly easy to do and if it doesn't help you can always go back to the default your ISP has assigned. You might want to try OpenDNS or another public DNS such as Google.

This entire thread was moved here to "Networking......." where it belongs as it is not a "Switcher" topic.

Yup that’s it! The broadband speed is OK, I tested it. But gmail opens so slow it wants to use HTML. And the other 2 machines on our network run fine (imac and PC) until I connect mine, then ALL run slow!

Try your old laptop, if it’s a similar problem it will be just fine. Then try connecting the imac and see if the PC slows down too. My ISP aren’t taking any responsibility as they say they are delivering the bandwidth specified in the contract and the problem is with my machine. I think the problem is a conflict between my machine and their router. Likely if I changed ISP everything would be fine again.

I used the App called COOKIE, to remove about 2,000 unwanted cookies and my connection improved significantly. You should be able to delete cookies even without a tool, but I can recommend Cookie.
