iMac not loading

Hello,
very new mac user who made a dumb mistake. Two users on the system, I gave admin access to the hard drive with cascaded permissions to all the folders. Restarted and now system stuck on the start up apple scene with circle indicating it is trying to load. Any suggestions how I fix my dumb error?

It is an IMAC 2.66 24 inch with OSX 10.6.2

Try holding down shift key after power on to see if it will boot into safe mode. If that works add a new user in Sys Prefs/Accounts and set Log in options to boot into the new User to see if u can regain control that way. Let us know if it works - i have not tried it before.
