How to view text messages/download them from my iphone to my iMac -- how to open text messages saved on a backup?

I have an iPhone 7 with battery issues. Was wondering if it's possible to view my text messages on my iPhone when it's connected to my iMac. Did a backup today on my computer. Going to get the battery replaced, not sure if it will harm any data on the iphone.

Login to iCloud in Messages on your iMac and you'll see all of your messages. If you allow Messages to use your iPhone as a means to send SMS', then text messages you send to Android devices will be visible as well.

All of this is stored in the cloud, so logging in is all you should need.

The battery replacement shouldn't do anything since the phone will essentially turn off on the old battery and turn back on on the new battery.
