While it's possible to run Windows via the Boot Camp Assistant from an external drive, it's not as cut and dry as some of the work arounds depict.

And as much as Microsoft updates Windows 10, there is always that possibility that you will have start over again with the work around.

The process outlined here by the article is complicated, long, and requires the use of the Terminal. You will also need to download VirtualBox in addition to the Boot Camp software.
