SMS is an abbreviation for Short Message Service. Basically, it’s a text message limited to 160 characters. MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Service. With an MMS, you can send a message including pictures, video, or audio content to another device. We'll show you how both of these can be sent and received on your Mac.

I don't send a ton of text messages but I find this very convenient. If I happen to get a text while sitting at the Mac it's so much easier to respond from there than to type on the iPhone/iPad keyboard.

Don't forget that your Mac can also send iMessages and SMS just as easily as your iPhone and iPad. As a matter of fact, I prefer using my Mac for iMessages because it's faster and I can use a better keyboard. Although I admit that the Apple keyboard - case for my iPad Pro is real convenient.
