Hello everyone,

This is my situation. I have two iMacs. One is the INSIGHT model with the webcam and Intel chipset and the other is an old G5 model. The old G5 has an DVD-RW and the other supposely newer model has only a CD-RW.

Can I exchange this from one to another? I want to get the DVDRW fro mthe old one and put on the new Intel base Insight model. Is this possible? Has anyone ever done this?

Thank you in advance.

I don't believe any of the Intel iMac's came with CD only drives.

Have you checked System Profiler under "Disc Burning" do see what it says you have?

BTW, the idea of switching two drives between iMac's is not something I would want to tackle.

Yep. mine came with a MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8124 :(

And te other older one comes with a DVD-RW DL even!

Go figure! I wonder if I can exchange them but the inside of them are completly diferent from one another. The G5 when I open I have acess to everything right there and the Intel is a pain to get access to the things.

Is your Intel iMac a 17"?

There were two versions of 17" iMac that came with DVD/CD-RW drives.

They were actually versions of the final eMac.
