G4 80gb imac. 2gb RAM.
You should be fine with 2 x 1 Gb RAM sticks, bearing in mind previous advice about brand.

That machine should have shipped with OS 10.4 Tiger (ref: Mactracker). The disks that will be sent to you (I presume) may be the grey eMac-specific ones that will work with that machine only. They are system restore disks. If you're lucky, you may receive the black-colored full install Tiger disks.

If you're not so fortunate, you will need to purchase Tiger from Apple or Amazon or eBay, but be extra vigilant about the veracity of claims made by online auction sellers.

I thought it should have shipped with Tiger too, but the seller seems very knowledgeable and genuine, so there must be a story about why it's on Panther - maybe it's what they required for their IT dept when they bought several machines? Nonetheless, he's sending Tiger discs - what derivative I don't know yet. If I only get restore discs then I'll need to buy full install ones?
I'll only buy them from Apple - don't want to start off with problems!

thanks so much once again 'hughvane'.

Yes install the 2x1GB. OWC at www.macsales.com, Mac specialist, supply this information:-

And for what it is worth run Leopard and it will perform very nicely with 2GB RAM. Very fast and stable system.

Thanks so much - really good to know that I haven't bought obsolescence as far as moving to Leopard when I need to.
I assume that 10.5 won't run everything smoothly with just a pair of 512's - it actually does need all the capacity of 2 x 1gb?

Please post or use PM when the disks arrive. You should be aware too that the full install version Tiger disks are in both high demand and short supply. I may be corrected, but I don't think Apple sells Tiger any more, but it would certainly pay to inquire. I suggest you use Search in Mac-Forums (and others?) for who is selling it.
