OK... My HD (iMac circa 2012) needs to be reformatted/partitioned. I've been able to install OS on external drive and I CAN access files on the internal drive. Additionally, I do auto backup with Carbonite.

My understanding of the iPhoto library is that it's not that easy to find...

Before I wipe the internal I'd like to copy that (iPhoto library and all associated images) over to my external, but not sure where to find it....

Thanks for your help!

Your iPhoto library is here:

Macintosh HD/Users/your user name/Pictures/iPhoto Library.photolibrary/

All your photos that show up under iPhoto are contained in the library. Copying the library will copy the photos.

So.... there are two libraries. One is from 2015 and is "... iPhoto Library" and is 135G. The other was last saved Dec 3016 and is 171G, and is "... Photos Library". My assumption is that the most recent includes everything from the other, since we went from iPhotos to Photos... Before going through a tedious check.... does that sound plausible?

That is correct.
