I have a USB drive attached to my Mac-Mini (1TB). It's used to store a backup of my photos and music (another drive is used by time machine)

If I go to About this Mac > Storage it shows the drive as not having any space on it (791 GB of "other"), but if I go into disk utility it doesn't show this "other" and reports plenty of space on the drive.

I have no idea what this "other" is and cannot find a way to delete these files (or whatever this is). It's not reporting as purguable.

Can someone, please, advise how to get rid of whatever this other is (I'm new to Macs, so in simple terms please). I presume that I can format the drive but that seems over the top.

Thanks
