The help you need is a new set of install disks. Contact Apple support, tell them the model number of your Mac and ask them to send you a replacement set of disks. Either that, or buy a copy of Snow Leopard from your local Apple dealer - wherever you're currently living.

My DVD Player has disappeared I've tried downloading the latest version 4.6 of DVD player, but on selecting the destination drive I get the error;

You cannot install DVD Player on this volume. A newer version of this software already exists on this volume.

Macintosh HD also has a red exclamation mark on it :O

Again, I've searched with spotlight and in finder for any remains of dvd player, with none found.

Would anyone that has DVD Player archived email it to me please? My operating system is os x 10.5.8
