My Macbook has a partition for BOOTCAMP and a partition for MAC OS X. I want to increase the size of my MAC partition and decrease the size of my BOOTCAMP partition using the Terminal and the diskutil resizeVolume commands. I'm currently following the instructions from this link:
Resize partitions on-the-fly | Utilities | Macworld
But I'm a little stuck and need help. I'm not very good with MAC or anything related to installing the OS, so I'm trying to be careful what I do. Here is my progress:
user$ diskutil list
/dev/disk0
#:______TYPE NAME__________________SIZE________IDENTIFIER
0:__GUID_partition_scheme___________*500.1 GB______disk0
1:_______________EFI_______________209.7 MB______disk0s1
2:________Apple_HFS Macintosh HD______32.1 GB______disk0s2 (want to increase the size of this partition)
3:__Microsoft Basic Data BOOTCAMP_____467.7 GB______disk0s3 (want to reduce this if necessary)
user$ diskutil resizeVolume disk0s2 limits (checked without resizing other partitions)
For device disk0s2 Macintosh HD:
______Current size: 32.1 GB (32078036992 Bytes)
_____Minimum size: 32.1 GB (32078036992 Bytes)
____Maximum size: 32.1 GB (32078036992 Bytes)
user$ diskutil resizeVolume disk0s3 limits
Volume format does not support resizing (I'm stuck here)
So here are my questions. Is there a way to increase the maximum size of the MAC partition? Would I be able to make the MAC partition bigger if I reduced the partition with BOOTCAMP? Would I be able to reduce the BOOTCAMP partition if that's needed to increase size of the MAC partition?
Can somebody please help me?
