Depenancies are only an issue with the inferior RPM package managers.

Anything Debian based is usually pretty flawless. Gentoo is ok too if you have time to compile.

Gentoo and Debian/Kubuntu are the only Linux distros I could ever use. Anything else was just a pain in the behind.

Linspire/Freespire has progressed well in this area. They have their (in fact I believe Ubuntu now uses this same thing) CNR (Click and Run). Dependencies are worked out by the download manager. If you want a program you just go to the site, pick out what you want and click it. A record of all the programs you have downloaded is kept at the site in case you crash and have to reinstall, you obtain another computer, etc, etc.
