Thank you for the response. My Mintek has a pretty good picture and I love the built-in DVD, but if anything goes wrong with it, I'm screwed! I'd advise anyone to go a different route.

That being said, I tried the same set up on our Plasma Panasonic downstairs and still no dice. So I'm thinking I have a faulty cable or adapter. I went ahead and ordered a VGA adapter instead and will try that route tomorrow when I get the cords. Unfortunately, the Panasonic is relatively new and lacks a VGA input so if it doesn't work on my Mintek, I'll be left in the dust on whether it's my computer, bad brand TV, or another faulty adapter :\

I'll let ya know how it goes...

If it's not working on the Panny, I'd def lean toward bad adapter or cable. Have 2 Panny plasmas here and both work with my MBP, though my model has the DVI connection.

I was up and running in minutes with the VGA adapter! Have a feeling the HDMI was simply a bad adapter, but I guess we'll never know... going to stick with the VGA. Thank you for the response!

Final Audio Step to HDTV

Sorry for posting privately,

I have a macbook pro (Apple MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.53 13" (SD/FW) Specs) with a mini-display port.

I bought a mini-display port to HDMI connection, and connected this to the back of the TV, and i was able to get a picture..great.

Sound. An Issue. The manual says that for if I have an analog audio output connector, I can connect the source device audio output to the DVI audio inport located next to the HDMI port.

What do I need to do this? Do I need a single 3.5mm audio cable, or a split red/white cable.

Or should I use an optical cable.

The back of the TV (haier HLH376BB) has a HDMI port and a DVI audio in port.

I just need this final step to make it work!!!

Haier has not made the owners manual available for this TV. So, you'll have to help me help you a little on this one. I have never even looked at a Haier TV either.

A couple of things first; some TVs can use any HDMI port and use a separate audio input, some will not accept a separate audio input. The ones that do allow it (which is most fortunately) may require you to use only one of the HDMI ports and others will allow you to use any HDMI port.

First thing to look at on the back of your TV is to see if one of the HDMI ports is labeled as DVI/HDMI or similar. If so, you must use that port for separate audio.

Then you need to look and see if there is an audio port labeled as DVI Audio on the TV.

The audio port could be one of these:
20101103-d6q7wcs4p7ee7qrmsnn84wkai8.png
This would be called a stereo mini-plug or stereo 3.5mm. This will look just like the audio port (aka headphone jack) you have on your Mac.

Or it could look like this:
20101103-jtwy4sbr21b3f4pgb9adr1f11x.png
This is most commonly called an RCA jack and is the most common on TVs.

Depending on which of those you have, you will need either:
a stereo 3.5mm mini-plug cable such as this,
or a stereo 3.5mm mini-plug to RCA cable like this one.

If you have nothing labeled per the above, you'll need to either provide the names of the ports on the back of your set, or better yet, post a picture and I can take my best guess based on the ports.

Macbook Pro to HDTV

Hi,

I downloaded the manual from this website:

Service & Support - Manual Download

http://www.haier.com/servicesupport/DealerWorld/download.asp?proID=5697&down=5&index=0&dealer=

As I mentioned the HLH376BB can be searched for manually.

The picture of the back of the TV is as below:

As per manual, I cannot find anywhere that it says that it is not compatible with a PC.

It does say I need audio input via the port next to the HDMI port.

questions:

1. can I feed audio through the HDMI on my macbook?
2. Can I use an optical cable for better sound?

thanks

**No, the mini displayport on your MBP does not support audio out. You will have to use the headphone out.

Optical input? No. The optical port on every TV I've ever seen or heard of (including this one) up to this point in time is for output only, not input. Ever heard of a TV with 5.1 speakers built in? No reason for digital input. But, they can receive and transmit 5.1 audio to another device.

It's pretty clear on page 7 of your owners manual.

20101105-reay5dxgdmujpqytwxqy472fck.png

That is not the white and red jacks of the RCA ports.
Which automatically makes it a 3.5mm mini-plug - link provided above.
These are the only two types of audio input connections on TV sets at this time (unless the new 3D sets have some new connection).

**Actually, you can feed the audio through the HDMI, but it'll cost you about $40 instead of the $4 for a mini-plug cable and you're still going to be using a separate port on your Mac for the audio - Option along with an HDMI cable, which means replacing the video cable you already have.

Thanks for all the advise contained in this wonderful thread. In two minutes I had my Macbook Pro connected to my new LG TV and working. The best bit of advise was to check the TV users manual to see how to connect your computer to the TV.

Macbook Pro to HDTV

Hi,

Thanks. for the advice. I will try that and get the appropriate equipment. I cannot find in the manual if I need to change the audio settings if I use the 3.5mm cable. I can get the HDMI macbook picture just fine, so the audio into the DVI port will automatically feed the sound also?

thanks sachil

Quite frankly, I can't tell you any more than you can read in the manual, since as far as I can recollect, I have never even seen a Haier branded TV, much less used one. The best I can do is quote the manual.

Let's just try the connection, do what it says, then worry about the next step if that doesn't work.

Not possible to answer this question without the make and model of the TV.

Or see this thread, Post # 3, part # 2.

With Panasonic in general you can use any HDMI port with separate audio input.

Once you have the audio cable plugged into the DVI port, you'll head into the menu of the HDMI port you're using and change the audio from digital to analog.

Sorry - assumed you had an American set and had figured out where to plug the audio since you mentioned you already had the audio plugged in - my bad.

Am also assuming here that your model is the TXP42C10B.

Your Owners Manual can be found here.

As I mention in the post linked above, you are always looking for what the manual calls the DVI connection. From page 61:

20101108-e8kynpt4kh88cjwqgdt55ejf7i.png

You must be using the HDMI # 1.
The audio cable must be plugged into the Component Audio terminals.

20101108-qit8i8reraa8h9shmabt5ysht7.png

The audio cable would be a 3.5mm stereo mini-plug to RCA cable like this.

Once you have it plugged in, head to page 31:

20101108-gyt3rdqbmunbiny3bmhnme9qgj.png

You will need to change the audio input for HDMI 1 from digital to analogue.

Dear All,
since several days I´m searching for information to get a solution for my problem. I´m in a good mood to find help here!

I have a Mac Book Mac OSx Version 10.5.8, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I´m not sure when I bought this, I think this is the first with aluminium case. A few weeks ago I bought a Sony Bavaria KDL32BX400 (link to manual) and want to connect my macbook to the LCD-TV.

I have a display miniport to hdmi adapter. When i choose the correct hdmi connection port (I tried all) the display of my mac gets nearly a second blue screen (same as I know from my cinema display) but no additional monitor is listed.

I checked my cable (hdmi to hdmi) and the adapter (mdp to hdmi) at a panasonic TV of a friend and it works (with my macbook). He also checked his mac book with my hdmi cable and his adapter (he has an older white macbook) with my tv and it works. Very strange!!! Please help me, I have already read so many posts in so many chats and I have no idea what to do. Maybe my mac gives out the wrong resolution? just a assumption...

I´m from Germany so please ignore my bad Englisch!

Thanks a lot !!
Matti

one additional information I can give are the dates below: (i got them from switchResX, i assume they are from my LCD Display of my MacBook, maybe there are important)

Matt:

I'd have to guess that the TV is not passing along the standard EDID. Only thing I can suggest, is stay on Sony's site possibly watching for a firmware update. I'd also make sure you contact Sony about it and let them know there are a bunch of you out here wanting it fixed.

Next course of action is going to be trying the DVI Doctor that I mentioned in the link above.
