• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hello all

Well, I finally took the plunge and bought a new M1 MBP with Final Cut Pro loaded on it.

I'm winding up my old MBP - I know I cannot transfer projects from my old Final Cut Express onto FCP - but was wondering:
Which of these options will give me the best quality, so I can pull off and keep my old movies (already made and edited in `FCE)?
Here are the options on offer.

Thanks, CB

You can read the attached article comparing the MOV to MPEG-4 (mp4). Both are good and almost identical. The difference is the mp4 is more universally compatible with all devices. MOV files are Apple proprietary and may or may not be universally compatible. It depends on where you will be using the videos and if you plan to share any with people using non-Apple devices. I always encode in mp4 as it is well accepted by Facebook, YouTube, Android phones, Windows etc.

Thanks, Iclev.
That's useful to know.
I've been using MOV for years, so think I'll stick with it.
And I'll do MP4 versions, too - while I'm at it - may be useful in the future.

Thanks, CB
