So then Onyx is something like CCleaner on the PC side?

Yes, it's roughly analogous.

You don't have to do a re-install to run it, or erase the current OS?

Hmm? Where did that come from? We were talking about maintenance.

If you're asking whether it's necessary to reinstall the OS on occasion, then no. In fact UNIX-like operating systems almost never need to be reinstalled. They just don't allow the user enough access to the underlying system directories to be able to modify them significantly. Reinstalling the OS as a method of maintenance is a bad habit that many of us bring with us from Windows, where it IS often necessary. OS X doesn't have a registry. It doesn't have DLLs scattered about. It doesn't let major OS files be modified.

Worst case scenario (if you truly want to clean the cobwebs) would be that you'd make a new user account and delete the old one.

I used Onyx on what I thought were items I was familiar with. However, what do you usually do with these functions? Do you run them? If so, how? Thanks.:)

I usually go into the Automation tab. Tick all of the boxes and click "Execute All".
