Yes, he did. He was my first "go to" for anti-virus ... now I wonder if he ever cringes when he sees his name associated with the junk they put out now.

Well, luckily I didn't bother buying any anti-virus software since the feedback here has been pretty negative. Just so glad I have a Mac and not Windows. I did run ClamXav, and after running for about 15 minutes returned a result of ZERO corrupted files or viruses.

I still don't know how my Chrome browser got riddled with "Ads by Maachsop" essentially rendering my browsing useless, but how I finally learned to fix it was to just go to Chrome's preferences, go to "Extensions," and then uncheck the "Enabled" box. Voila.

Good work. Maybe you downloaded software from Softonic or CNET unwittingly and they load adware into the package. And avoid Avast as it is a major resource hog.
