@Mac Man 2007 I think we must be missing some vital piece of the puzzle. Fundamentally, does the OP have DSL or not, and if so, how does it get to his apartment? Maybe the DSL modem is elsewhere and feeds the Ethernet? I'm thorough confused at this point.

Jake,
I am also confused. The modem he shows is a DSL modem. The exact same one I use. I cannot find anything in the instructions about connecting to the internet via WAN. ??

I just realized an ethernet cable cannot fit into a telephone socket. So which which wall socket it the yellow cable connecting to?

Good morning all,

Outside the buildings are an antenna which must connect to some tower, I imagine.
Here are a couple of shots. Maybe they will help to explain. If I ever get in touch with CL they might have the answer to whether or not I can use the AE??

OK, here is what I *think* is going on. You have a service to your apartment that provides an Ethernet connection to the building's network. The building's network has an access to the Internet. So, if you plug into the Ethernet port you should be able to get Internet through that service. The way you have your CL router set up, all it is doing is being a WiFi hub. Which is the same thing the AE does. If I am right, you don't need both of them.

Try this experiment: Plug the yellow wire from the wall into the AE input port. Try to connect to the AE from the Mac and get to the internet. I think it will work, if my understanding is accurate. If it doesn't, I can't help for the next two days because I'm on the road, so I'll drop out and let others take over.

Thanks Jake,

I will try your experiment

When I moved in, 3 years ago, (and if I remember correctly, which is a guess) the CL guy plugged his box into that ethernet input. No green cable. Then I asked him about my AE and if it would work with it. Can't remember his answer but he plugged it in with my cable from the CL (not sure which input) to the AE, I think, to the internet port. Everything worked so that was that. Since that time the signal went from OK to Awful to Zilch, back and forth. Now, thanks to you, the signal is much "more better" than ever.

Probably not a hack. It looks like someone has spammed you. I'll check it out.

@Slydude

Sly, I just got exactly the same "invitation" via the "Private Conversations" part of our Forums. I have reported it.

There are plenty of other people using Centurylink in you building. Go knock on some doors and ask how they are set up with CL.
I got spammed this morning also.

Looks like Nick beat me to taking care of both situations. Hopefully this is not going to become a thing.

I did your experiment. It wouldn't connect. The CL folks must have thought of that already. Then I plugged the AE BACK into the CL just to see if there were going to be a signal drop. No drop in signal but also no gain either... They don't seem to be fighting each other...yet...

This is beyond what I know. I have the exact C1100T modem that Faqua shows in an earlier post. Attached are 2 screen shots of the first page of
"Modem Status". To the left is an access menu for different options on how the modem is operating and set up. Maybe somebody here can offer ideas as to which part of the menu should be open on your Modem to access how it is set up. Just sayin. I sure don't know. For the record I am on DSL and live in a house in the woods. I just am guessing that maybe the apartment building is set up with a main Wan network for the whole building and judging from the coax connection maybe access to cable internet is also available? Just guessing.
I had to take 2 screen shots as it was too long to fit into one.

I'm right there with you Mac Man,
Here is what I'm looking at:
So you are on a WAN network! And supposedly you should be getting 100Mbs up and down. Notice I am on a DSL network and you are on a WAN network.
