Hello
I'm looking for a 27" monitor that I can use with my 2014 Macbook Pro, and my wife can use with her company HP laptop.
Would be nice to have something that can be easily swapped over around.
Doesn't need to be anything 'professional', but I've been using an Apple 27" thunderbolt display, so something of that quality would be nice.
Any suggestions please?
Many thanks.

While there are lots of "comparison" and "review" Web sites, few of them can be trusted because many are shill sites. However, this one is trustworthy in my opinion:

http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-27-inch-monitor/

These monitors have been extremely popular for a while now. Be sure to read the user reviews on Amazon for them.:

Dell UltraSharp U2715H 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor
by Dell
$479
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P0EQD1Q/?tag=macforums0e4-20

Samsung 28-Inch Ultra High Definition LED Monitor (U28D590D)
$499
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IEZGWI2/?tag=macforums0e4-20

Samsung 27-Inch LED Monitor S27D360H
$270
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IEZGY7G/?tag=macforums0e4-20
Be advised this monitor has a TN panel. TN panels are less desirable in terms of image quality, colors, and angles of
vision. However, this particular monitor is just about comparable to IPS monitors and is a tremendous value.

HP Pavilion 27xw 27-in IPS LED Backlit Monitor
$170
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0199W9UMS/?tag=macforums0e4-20
Another tremendous value TN-based monitor.

Hello again.
I'm still looking for a monitor for a Macbook Pro (late 2013). I've found a good deal on an HP Z27n. Does anyone there have experience of this monitor? Would you recommend it (what cable would I need to connect to the Macbook Pro, and could I use the Macbook in clamshell mode)?
Many thanks for your help

If your Mac model supports HDMI you should be able to connect that way since the monitor appears to support HDMI if I read the specs correctly. If not you should be able to use a Thunderbolt cable.

From the Amazon link I checked out...this display has quite a few port options:

"Connect to your everyday devices with integrated HDMI, mDP, DP, MHL, DVI, and a USB 3.0 hub with a fast-charging port."

Probably need to clarify what exact model MacBook Pro you have. In post #1 you said "2014 MacBook Pro". In post #6 you said "Late 2013".

Good deal. Late 2013 retina MacBook Pro's have 2 Thunderbolt ports & an HDMI port. Like Slydude mentioned...you could use the HDMI port or one of the Thunderbolt ports for this monitor. The Thunderbolt ports (when it comes to monitors/displays)...act like a "mini-display port" (which this monitor appears to have..."mDP").

And in case you wanted more port info...here you go:

I'm considering getting the monitor LG 27UD68 for my MacBook Pro to replace my Thunderbolt display which is constantly blacking out. But I'm concerned my Mac may be too old. I bought it in 2011. i've attached an image of the system info for the Thunderbolt bus. Would the LG 27UD68 work on my Mac? Thanks.

We need to know about the model and year of your Mac. You can check under the Apple icon in the upper left corner and click on About This Mac.

There is an issue with 2011 MBP graphic cards, https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/

The LG has a variety of inputs including HDMI and MiniDisplayPort. It should work with no problem on your 2011 MBP. I'd make sure to purchase from a store with a no-questions-asked return policy. Also, nothing wrong with a bit of price matching. My LG TV was half price from BestBuy with the aid of a competitor's ad on my iPhone, even though the competitor was in Ontario and the sale was taking place in Alberta.

That model lacks HDMI, but you can hook it up via the Thunderbolt port.
