I recently started having a problem with my monitor going black and the message #2 analog imput shows up. I was advised to replace my adaptor (I am using a mac mini) so I did... I replaced my monitor because I suspected my monitor was going bad, got a new monitor and now the problem is constant, can't keep a screen for more than a couple of minutes, Sometimes shutdown gives me a screen for a bit, but once it starts, I am toast for the day usually. Do I need a video card as Applecare suggests? I hate to do it and then find out it isn't that, and I have not found anything online to confirm that. Thoughts anyone?

The problem you describe is a video graphics one, not the monitor. (as you found out) Unfortunately, the mini like most other Mac machines uses a GPU set which is soldered to the logic board. Which means the entire logic board has to be changed out.

If your warranty or Apple care is still current on the machine, take it on in and let the genius bar deal with it.

Regards.
