I wasn't acquainted with those Portenzo cases before now. Any chance you could post a pic or two when you get it, and maybe some comments on it? I really like the looks of those and may be interested in one whenever I replace my iPad. It looks like it might even negate the downsides of that narrow bezel on the iPad mini.

I have one for my iPad 3 actually. I took a bunch of pics of it when I got it. Never got around to writing a review on it. >_<"

Hoping to get a mini myself, but have to wait for the cellular models to come out... :)

I want to get rid of my phone and use the mini as my phone.

They're already being sold from the Apple store on line. Have you checked lately? (Available to ship in two weeks.)

So this happened to my iPad Mini. Needless to say that I'm not very thrilled. I scheduled an appointment. Went in and signed in. The guy that was signing was quite rude. Said that it was only cosmetic damage and that it happens with normal wear and tear.

I just bought the thing and paid quite a bit of money for it. I expect it to not look like someone took a saw to it.

I never leave the iPad mini out of my sight nor have I dropped it or bumped it on anything. I noticed that there were white specs on the sides of the iPad. Then the next day pieces of it started to fall off.

After talking to one of the Apple Genius he said that he never seen anything like that on an iPad Mini before and brought out a new one for me.

That guy doesn't understand customer service (especially as an employee of Apple).

I can't tell from here but is that a paint chip or actual marks on the casing?

I'm not even sure myself. Seems like its paint that is chipping off? The damage seemed to be triangular and have a sharp edge as it goes deep down.

Sounds like it's a mark in the frame itself and not the paint. I suppose that's one of the downsides of non-rounded corners. Regardless, simple daily use shouldn't result in that.

Almost 2 Week Update

Had the mini for almost 2 weeks and sold my iPad2 today as it was sitting idle. IMO when they put a retina screen in the mini the standard iPad will disappear.

Of course, with the 13in Retina MBP out, they could rework the MBA to be an iPad Pro with detachable keyboard, and out Surface the MS Surface.

I would never put a ipod mini in my car. That would be just one more reason for someone to break my window or fudge up my door trying to steal it. I dont even keep a gps in the car anymore.

Why not just bring it with you or hide it in the glove box?

One remedy for this is NEVER NEVER NEVER leave something visible (especially valuables) in your car when you park & leave it. That's what the glove compartment, the trunk (boot), or anywhere else in the car that keeps things out of site.

Of course…the 100% best remedy is to not leave valuables inside of a car…but sometimes this is not practical.

Wow, that should be illegal. As something that wasn't designed to be used by a driver, I can only imagine how ill suited a tablet is for a console.

Immediately made me think of the Japanese team car in the movie Cannonball Run.

The funniest thing about that, is it was Jackie Chan who played the Japanese tech and Richard Kiel (Jaws from James Bond) as the driver. Talk about mis-matched.
