Youtube app on ipad screen size

Ever since the IOS8 update the youtube app on the ipad has a funny looking screen size:

The left area is taking up too much space on the screen, is there any way to resize the right area to how it used to be, on ios7 the screen was sized correctly.

Here's my YouTube screen as seen on my iOS 8-running iPad Air 2, just now (resized to 800x600 for bandwidth purposes):




So as you can see, your copy of YouTube is quite confused about orientation and is trying to do "portrait" when you're in "landscape."

A restart of your iPad (not just putting it to sleep, a complete power-cycling) should fix the issue, but if it doesn't, try deleting the YouTube app outright and re-downloading it.
