RESOLVED
I have installed Yosemite on my wife's iMac but the primary iCloud was out of date. I deleted it but this removed one of her e-mail accounts although its still in her mini iPad.
I've tried reinstalling the e-mail account but it doesn't accept the password I entered. The account is still up and running on the iPad. How can I check the password from there?
