i have just bought a late 2010 mac air with yosemite upgrade 1.86 GHZ intel core 2 duo memory 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3. i believe best yosemite operation, also for mavericks requiring 4 MB Ramm. can i upgrade on mac air to 4 or better to downgrade osx to mountain lion?

You are stuck with 2GB RAM memory in that MBAir if that's what it came with.

And I can't believe they say it can run Yosemite 10.10.x, but maybe…
Going back to Mavericks can be a PITA but possible depending on several things, like a backup and a Mavericks installer etc. etc.

Mavericks is as demanding as Yosemite so the idea of Mountain Lion is a good one.
