I updated to Yosemite and I don't know Y they changed the Icons but that's a story for a different day. My problem is that the "Downloads" folder icon is different than the one that shows up in "Download info" how do I make them the same.

The icon(s) I'm talking about are in Finder list. I look for the info by right click on the Icon then Get Info. The icon is the correct one in the info, but it doesn't show correctly under the finder list.
The finder list shows a simple sheet of paper looking Icon.

IF you're talking about the Dock (Finder list?), right-click and change "Display as" to folder.

Those aren't the default Yosemite icons that comes with an update. Have you installed any icon packs to replace the default ones?

This is what I have..

Are you running Xtrafinder? And have "Show colorful icons" checked?

I suspect he's using a third party app. I can set PathFinder (which I use) to show color icons on the sidebar instead of the drab looking default.

No not using any third party app to install different Icons. My solution is to restore the initial Yosemite install to see what was installed on day one.
I do backups daily, the only thing I need is to remember the day I installed Yosemite. Does any one know if there is an activity log I can use? I'm an old windows guy and don't know much about Mac OS

Then where and how did the set of color icons that you have in your Finder sidebar come from? As Ashwin stated, those that you show are not the default for Yosemite. And the fact that they are in color shows that they have been altered by a program.

If I knew were the Icons/colors came from I wouldn't be asking how to fix them in this forum or anywhere else.
I know you're trying to help, and i thank you for it, but so far.......going no place

Thought I had something as my wife's Finder looks just like his.
Then I remembered, she's running Xtrafinder and has colorful icons checked.

Are you running any of the following:
Xtrafinder
Totalfinder
Pathfinder
ColorfulSidebar
SideEffects

Please look in Users & Groups in System Preferences at the login apps.
Maybe something you forgot about?

In addition to what Cradom said, if you had any of these or other styling programs installed BEFORE updating to Yosemite, they might be continuing to work AFTER the update and thus changing the appearance..
