I'm getting this message when I right-click on a day in Calendar version 8.0
and select "New event":
"You don’t have permission to modify this event."
"The owner of this calendar doesn't allow you to create these items."

What to do??

First one of the mods or admins will pop in and tell you not to post the same question in two places. It really doesn't get you more help.

First need a few questions answered. Did it calendar ever work? If so what has changed? Can I safely assume you are using this on the Mac Mini listed under your name?

When you open Calendar -> Preferences - under Accounts what does it show? Is your apple id showing and is your mac connected to your apple id?

Sorry for the double post. . :Blushing::Blushing::Blushing:

Re: "... Calendar -> Preferences - under Accounts what does it show?"
It shows both my iCloud and Gmail accounts.

Re: "Is your apple id showing and is your mac connected to your apple id?"
If my apple id is my iCloud account, then yes, it is showing.
How can I check to see if my Mac is connected to my apple id?

Please advise :'(

Here is probably more than you wanted to know about your apple id:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204161

Another thing you can do and is good to check is what machines are associated with your apple id. You can do that with iTunes.

I am really fishing here. Did calendar ever work on your Mac? Is this a recent development from say a recent update? Do you have a backup of any kind if it did ever work?

Thanks.

I looked at every link you sent, and verified them all.

Seems, from what I can see, that everything checks out ok with my Apple ID, iTunes, etc.
I was able to log in with my username and password. In fact, as soon as I started iTunes
I was already logged in because under "Store" was the option to "Sign out".

I have 5 machines associated with my Apple ID.

I was able to see 3 of them under "Manage my devices" and the problem MacMini, which
I purchased in 12/2012 is listed, so I'm pretty sure this MacMini is properly registered with
Apple.

Re: "Did calendar ever work on your Mac?"
Yes, it did.

RE: "Is this a recent development from say a recent update?"
Maybe. There was a recent update. I also remember I messed with
something (and I'm not at all very Mac savvy) and had to rebuild my
Outlook Main Identity (I know, I'm lame) which did work to allow back
into Outlook for Mac 2011.

RE: Do you have a backup of any kind if it did ever work?
Yes. Time Machine.

Sounds like a permissions issue to me -- maybe run OnyX over it and restart and see if that clears up the issue. Couldn't hurt, might help.

As suggested I would open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities and run Permissions Repair, but do a backup first. Cause it sure sounds like a permissions issue to me.
If that doesn't work try Chas-m suggestion, download and run Onyx (Auto Settings are fine).

That was my next suggestion - what Rod and chas_m said.
