ok lets try again this is what I'm trying to do and whats happened:

"I have a DVD ripped file that is .avi and I'm trying to burn it onto a DVD... I pulled it into toast titanium and it took 4 1/2 hours to encode then just quit with an error. The disc plays half the movie but the quality sucks major... Then I tried to convert it to a differant video type using ffmpegx but then the audio didn't work... I'm so confused please help."

I posted thins once already but then someone posted up a search thread, but when I clicked on the link it said this: Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

and then my thread was locked... I'm so lost and confused and I need help with this. I have been running through search for hours and havn't been ale to find what i need to do... I just need a tutorial or step by step instructions something that helps besides "use search n00b" All the threads I've found in search have brought up the ways I'm trying to do this but not one awnser on how to fix what I'm trying to do.... thanks for helping me

Is that the message you are getting as the error message in toast?

I don't have toast, but this is the solution I found on the internt.

Burn the DVD using the advanced data settin
g > DVD-ROM (UDF), while making sure there were no .DS_Store files anywhere.

I don't remeber the error sorry, I don't want to ruin another DVD untill I can better figure out what happend.

So this is what I found... use DivX Doctor II to convert the AVI, then FFmpegx to make a video_TS folder then use Toast to burn it right???

Well when using the DivX doctor I immediatly get the message reading: The AVI you just added contains an AC3 audio track. AC3 support is very rudimentary. I'll just dump the track for you. Read the Readme." Whatever that means? Then when it's finished it reads...
At least one error has occured. You should check the Error Log.
The last errorwas:
Warning!
ERROR:Error while Doctoring
FILE = /DivX Doctor II/(File name).avi
ERR = -2048, noMovieFound

So you can tell, I'm lost as all and nothing is working for me... I'm ready to throw the computer through a window!!!

i would say to grab all the codecs you can and install them. then use FFMPEGX to convert the movie from avi to video_TS.

I would say drop the avi file into idvd and burn it from there, it should encode and burn it for you. Works everytime for me.

Also in Toast there is a simulation burn option. Where you can verify that you will be able to burn a disk with messing one up.

As In my post when I tried this I got an error after 4 1/2 hours of encoding an hour movie... then the movie quality was extremelyu horrible and it stopped working about 1/2 way through the movie on the DVD. It looks and sounds great when I play the .avi file on the computer....

Then the movie has no audio when It's on DVD after I burn the video_TS file.... ????

well if you use MTR and re-rip the dvd, you shouldn't have a problem. that's if you still have the original dvd.
the bottom line is keep Macs and avi. files seperate. they don't like each other!
