Can anybody tell me when Time Capsule (model MD033B/A) will have been manufactured? If I buy will I no longer need Airport Extreme 5th generation?

If you are talking about this, then yes it is a Time Capsule and AirPort Wi-Fi base station is one and you don't need two separate devices. I imagine these devices are manufactured on a rolling basis based on supply and demand..

Apple Time Capsules have been around since about 2008. The 3TB Time Capsules are more recent…with the first 3TB model being 2011 (4th gen. Time Capsule) & in the most recent 5th gen. Time Capsule.

If this is the "flat" shaped TC…then it would be a 4th gen flat model from 2011-2013. If it's a tower shaped model…then it's a 5th gen. model from 2013 & later.

I failed to get that one on eBay as it went for £150 plus £14.99 p&p. I got an earlier 2 TB model for less than half that but I think it will be adequate as the defunct Time Machine it will replace was 1TB and I still have an identical 1 TB Time Machine.

If possible I would like to keep the same name for my network as the existing one. Does this mean that I have to delete it or will Airport Utility (Version 6.3) do this automatically?

There was a lot mentioned in this post…so I wanted to verify some things.

- First…you have or had a 1TB Time Machine?
- Second…you just got a 2TB Time Capsule?

Do you really mean that you had or have 1 TB Time Capsule…and now have a 2TB Time Capsule?

If this is true…what was the main reason for getting the newer Time Capsule version?

My Time machines are not Apple products but Iomega external drives set up as Time Machines. Yes, following the crash of one of the 2 drives, I decided to buy a Time Capsule on eBay, especially as the price I paid, £69, was not much more than I paid for each of the Iomega drives and I will still have a 5th generation Airport Extreme to sell.
