Can't get my mac to send mail with Yahoo's basic plan. I receive mail, but can't output. Mac Pro, 16 GB, OS Sonoma 14.5. Cox High Speed Digital Internet.
Tried Connection Doctor, "Use This Server", deleted re-added accounts...

Typically, those kinds of issues are caused by either 1) the Yahoo server being unavailable, or 2) your credentials being wrong, i.e., you are not logged in properly to the Yahoo account. Given that the first issue is not resolvable by you, you should check that your login credentials and server information in the account is accurate. Yes, I know you re-added them, but I would check them again.

Just one question, are you referring to mail on the Yahoo website or a Yahoo account added to Apple Mail or some other email client?
Speaking of which, there is a Yahoo Mail app for MacOS and iOS you might be interested in trying that.

I can send and receive mail in the Yahoo Mail ap, but when I try to use the mail icon on the bottom of the desktop, it will receive mail, but not send it through my email account with Yahoo.

These days adding a email account to Apple Mail is relatively easy. You no longer need to manually enter details for incoming and outgoing servers just pick your account provider from the "Add" list, in this case Yahoo, fill in your User Name and Yahoo account password but, you do have to tick "Make Active" and Save, if you have that option.

I did have my own domain and email address, and I find for these types manual input is the only way (in my case) as the IMAP/POP3 and SMTP details are not usually found, but as you say, Yahoo, Gmail, Apple, Outlook etc have details automatically added.
