Hey folks. I'm looking to get my hands on a 12'' G4 Powerbook with plastics in good cosmetic shape and a nice screen. Mine works, but's on it's last leg and I'd just like to slick it up a little bit. Actually the screen on my works but the microphone doesn't and I'm assuming its a hard repair to pull the screen out of the top casing. Any advice? If you guys got an old ibook laying around with a bad motherboard or something, I'd love to take it off your hands. Toodeloo, Vaughn

Do you need an iBook or a PowerBook? You mention iBook in the title, but say PowerBook in the actual post.

You're correct about it being a bit of a pain to pull the LCD assembly off (and apart), but it would have to be done to repair the Mic (If it's broken at that end and not something wrong at the logic board or connector end). Removing the assembly itself, though, is pretty straight-forward. You have to remove the upper/lower case and the top/bottom metal shields to get to the hinges/wiring to replace the LCD assembly. There will be 4 wires and connectors coming out of the assembly (Mic, display backlight, display data, and airport card antenna), so make sure they are all disconnected before unscrewing and removing the lcd assembly. It is very important that you get the appropriate model iBook to replace parts for yours, as the 4 models all have slight differences from each other (mouse connectors being one that comes to mind). The LCD assembly on the 800MHz/1GHz/1.2GHz models are cross compatible while the LCD assembly for the 1.33GHz models are ONLY compatible with the 1.33GHz model! :)

I'm not sure which all parts you needed, but I have a ton of iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 12" parts. I have more iBook parts than PowerBook, so hopefully you meant iBook the whole time. If you want to email me at [email protected], I'll see if I have the parts you need. If not, I have a contact who may be able to fill any parts order you need.

Sorry to post so much. :D
