Word for Mac

It's pathetic. Does anyone know of a VALID link to a free version of MS Word for Mac? Pirate doesn't work, CNET doesn't work.....

There are no links to a free copy of Mac Word 2011 and there are no free copies "floating" around. However, there are alternatives which you can try and are free: Bean, OpenOffice, LibreOffice.

What, specifically, is the problem with Pages? I'll bet you a dollar the actual issue lies in your expectations rather than Pages ...
