Word 2011: Help! Massive lags when trying to switch windows and select text in split

Among other bugs: I am experiencing massive lags when trying to switch windows and select text in split window mode (in a single doc). This is almost unusable!

Frustrating!

Me: on MBA 2.13 GHz, 4GB; OSX 10.6.8; Word 2011 14.1.3 (I believe this is the latest?).

Word tends to bog down when the text is somewhat long and/or contains media. What kind of document are we talking here? We'll also need to know how much RAM you have and what processor (and speed) you've got.

Yes, definitely a lot of text and footnotes. No media, though. I will update the post with more system details.

I just tried it here. I opened up a 94 page document that I have written up (~ 42,500 words) and I could split the window and select text without issue. Now, I don't know how long your documents are so this could be an utterly useless experiment on my part (not to mention different system specs). I also opened up another document that is 85 pages long (~ 40,000 words) and I could switch between them with ease (I even have another 5 page document open as well). As I mentioned though, my system specs are likely quite different - I'm running a 2.1 C2D with 4GB of RAM.

Actually, I am working with less text but not radically so: maybe anywhere from 12K-35K. Lots of footnotes, though -- I don't know if that makes a difference. We have the same RAM and fairly comparable processing power...

do you think it could be a preference issue? And if so is there something I should delete? I assumed this is not that common of an issue, as I haven't found anyone else posting on it.

it is worth mentioning that I have made another post about not being able to paste text into the 'find' field: even when the cursor is obviously there, it keeps coming up in the body -- so maybe some weird buggy problem somewhere?

Do you have any general suggestions?

Just reading your posts here and your other thread, I'm beginning to think you might want to try uninstalling Office 2011 and doing a reinstall. I know that sounds rather drastic and since Office 2011 does not have an uninstall utility it might mean quite a bit of work.

I have to agree with chscag here. You seem to be having too many issues with the same set of apps. Reinstall Office but uninstall it fully first using the instructions provided in chscag's post.
