Mac OS used to come with it, but hasn't since Tiger; StuffIt Expander is the usual way to open and uncompress zip and rar files. Finder I think will handle zips just by double clicking, but I always download the basic (free) version of StuffIt on every Mac I get/use.

Call it tradition...

Does Stuffit do .rar files too? I use UnrarX for .rars, not sure why but I have in mind I couldn't use stuffit.

You dont mess around do you?? Get a brand new mac and are already changing icons :)

There are some icons that cant be changed from the info page. Not sure if the HDD is one of those or not. I personally use candybar to do system wide icon changes.
