Morning,

I've searched but I can't seem to find the answer, or maybe I i'm overlooking what i'm looking for.

My roommate just gave me her old pc. I have a Powerbook.

Can I directly connect to her PC and use it as a server, to access files etc. without the use of a router, modem, etc. Just two computers, communicating between eachother, granted her PC has wifi capabilities as well?

I have no intent of using the pc just as a wireless hard drive of sorts that I can just tuck away somewhere, where I can access from anywhere in the house at anytime, have my automatic backup to it, access itunes library etc. etc.

I don't see any reason why you can't do what you want. I've networked my MacMini with Windows PCs (XP and Vista) using Ethernet, Firewire and WiFi, although my WiFi has been via a router. However, you should be able to run an "Ad Hoc" wireless network just as easily.
