need to access Arc GIS -a windows application- and running into issues with boot camp...what is the best platform to operate windows on a mac for Arc GIS VM? parallels??

Unless the app is very resource intensive, start with a VM first. You can grab a copy of VMWare Player for free which should suit your needs. You will, of course, need to purchase a copy of Windows to install in there.
